“Based on what we currently know there is no nutrient more important for decreasing risk of cardiovascular death—and more lacking—than omega-3.” Dr. Willaim S. Harris is currently a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Sanford USD School of Medicine, in Sioux Falls, SD.
The video below is an interview with William Harris, PhD, an international expert on omega-3’s.

“A high Omega-3 Index reduces risk for heart disease and helps maintain healthy brain function. You should know your Omega-3 Index.”
Dr. Clemens von Schacky, MD, Cardiologist
We’ve all been programmed to worry about to high bad cholesterol (and too low good cholesterol).
But an even greater risk factor for heart disease may be your Omega 3 Index. (The American Heart Association recommends that anyone with a history of cardiovascular disease take 1000 mg fish oil per day; without a history of CVD eat fatty fish twice a week; anyone with elevated triglycerides take 2000 – 4000 mg of fish oil daily).
The Omega 3 Index — What is it? It’s how much Omega 3 fatty acid is present in each and every cell in your body (and measured as a percentage of the total fat in RBC membrane’s). That’s the detail.
The summary lesson is:
1) Find out your Omega 3 Index with a simple skin prick blood test (schedule a 30 minute appointment at Mittag Holistic Chiropractic to do so. Call 952-345-8245 and ask for a 30 minute appointment.)
2) If your Index is below 7% you are at greater risk for heart disease…
3) But if your Omega 3 index is low all you have to do is start taking pharmaceutical grade fish oil (link to product on Amazon.com) on a regular basis
PS. Insurance does not cover the Omega 3 Index lab testing.
